That’s sounds like a perfectly planned trip. In my time fishing I’ve had 2 of those type of monster hookups. Nothing you can do after a certain point of the fish ripping off line. Crank down the drag and hold on tight. Bummer on loosing a board and lure. I always have wondered what size and type of fish it could be?
Fish on!

I was west of you in front of Gary light, didn't have the success you had but i didn't go as far north. I was in 50 ft . I marked an incredible amount of bait but only a coho to show for it. I was running only spoons though, probably should of had a FF fly or 2 in the spread

Man, I wish i had been able to stay out that day. Weather forecast was definitely off early, but like you i was confident it would have laid down. We started north of the gong, marking more baitfish i have seen in 15 years. Had two on back to back right off the bat, and as soon as we got lines back in the water the second time my 5yo daughter started getting seasick. Ended up calling it a day after only the two, both came on a monkey puke spoon at 25'.

Oh man. You were on them! I’ve had to turn around a couple times for sick passengers. Just part of it.
