Couldn't get anyone to wake up and hit the lake with me early today so it was a solo run. Started out right by the mouth of the ditch before sunrise but after about two hours there were too many boats trying to fish the same stretch of water and nobody hooking up so I pulled lines and headed NNW to the state line. Found another handful of boats out there, but everyone was spread out. Trolled around and marked a dozen or more smaller bait pods between 30' - 45'. Some had fishy marks around them but not much action.

I was starting to think about packing up at around 9:30 when one downrigger went off and I was treated to a beautiful areal show and battle with a decent steelhead: Hit a silver J-Plug 45' down. After I landed that one and was busy untangling the slider from the main line, my five-color rod started dancing and gave me another nice Steelie on a flasher-fly combo.

I decided not to push my luck and finished pulling lines and got back to the launch just as the fair-weather recreational boaters started to descend. Got out just in time.
