I haven’t done much trolling this time of a year, but a coworker has asked me to take him and his daughter out on Tuesday. Assuming we don’t melt from the heat where should I take them? I do t mind running out a ways or staying close. Would launch out of portage. Thanks for any help you’re willing to give!

I'm by no means an expert at off shore fishing in any stretch of the imagination. Its definitely been slow for us but as noted above. I usually start in 85 fow north out of the ditch. The past couple of trips UV spoon down 50 to 60 on the rigger and Carmel dolphin on a 7 color has been good.. hope this helps ..

Appreciate both of your responses! Anything helps as I’m usually closer to shore or on different waters this time of year.

It's not like the fishing is on fire out "deep" from what I've heard and where, what to do offshore is something more learned by experience than just go here, do this and hang on. The places the above mentioned is a good area and they've narrowed it down to about a million acres and the lures and methods will have you running lures from about 30 feet deep to the bottom - and have you wondering what you are doing wrong, right.

On one hand, the weather for Tuesday looks great for running offshore. Good day to get some experience. With a bit of luck you'll likely catch a fish or two.

On the other hand, if you are experienced with nearshore fishing for cohos, there are some steelhead around in the same area you probably have caught cohos and you can probably catch one or two of them as well as a few gaspergoo, you won't burn a dinosaur worth of gas, get eaten by ankle flies and if you overheat, you can run for cover or head for the beach.

Use larger spoons and plugs than you normally use for cohos - ThinFish are good, Fish them in the middle third of the water column. Good luck either area and let us know the outcome!

It could be worth trolling by the #4 for skamania as this is prime time for them.

Trolled in front of the ditch and break wall and never got the first hit. Maybe the water was too warm? Oh wel, back to perching tomorrow if the weather holds.
