When to Gary Light house. Marked some bait and fish in 55 ft of water. Trolled from 2:30 to 7:30 pm. No hits. No fish.

I ran my boat out for a sea trial real quick and when I came in I saw you at the fuel dock at MS.  Sorry to hear about the tough day Bruce.

Fishing must be really frustrating this year. Seems to be totally different than the past 2 years. Hopefully conditions and fishing will stabilize soon.

I feel like its more "normal" than anything Don.  The past few years were amazing for kings early, and even cohos for that matter.  I think the water influx from the streams (heavy rains or lack there of) has alot to do with that as well as the lake and air temperature patterns.   I am not a lake biologist though, thats just my observational opinion.  Right about this time of year, things start to transition more offshore.  I think we are in the transition now.

For the most part I have not been out fishing other than tournaments (less two short trips) I have not had any great days this year, but I also have not had any bad days.  Some days certainly challenging but I would not call them bad....... also not any knock your socks off great days that we experienced the past couple of years. Thats why its called fishing and not catching I guess lol.

I think a factor is I see alot more anglers than I did a few years ago.  More anglers catching means less fish available to catch overall.  Not sure how much of a factor it is, but I certainly notice a difference in the amount of folks out there which is great to see.

Nope not saying that at all.  Previous few years were.  There have certainly been some "ok" days this year and thats about it.

Maybe your saying it’s more normal probably is     true, but what bothers me is that water levels and such don’t seem to have changed much. Temps were normal. I noticed this trip the lake in terms of vegetation and overall air temps the lake area lags behind us at least several weeks. I expected a boom in the fishing because of the good alewife spawns.

I saw an article recently said that the lake was down this year after the last couple years of the water being at record highs.    I have not personally been tracking the water levels, but from the article I would say the lake was higher the last couple of years than it is this year.   That could also explain the good last two years and this year not being as stellar.

Maybe I am wrong but it seemed to me like the southend never warmed up early spring vs the rest of the lake.  It would start to, then weather patterns would remix the water.  It seemed like lake temps were the same down here vs up north forever and a day.  Only now are we starting to see some south end warming.  I think combine that with what Ed said on water levels being lower, specifically lack of influx of nutrient rich water, and I think we are just seeing less fish finding their way down here.  Thats my speculation and thats all it is at this point.
