Fished straight out of Michigan City from 90 to 100 foot of water this morning. went 15 for 15 catching 12 coho, 2 lake trout and 1 steelhead. Speed at the ball was 2.2 to 2.4. Fish were feeding on black fly's, their bellies were full of them. Best rod was a 3 color with a 6 inch spin doctor and a small Howie fly ( see photo below ).  Caught all fish on small fly combos, nothing on spoons. Did not mark any bait fish in this area. I found a small pod of fish and kept turning back on them. Caught 2 fish on my down rigger 42 down. Only 2 fish came on my high divers, nothing on the low ones. Caught the rest of the fish on boards. 6 color, 3 color and a 5/8 keel weight set 50 and 75 feet back. Beautiful day on the water when the wind, waves and fish all cooperate. I guess my strategy going forward is not to look for bait fish but to find the area holding the most fly's and start fishing there. LOL.

Nice job! Ditto on the flies- they're everywhere but at least they don't bite...

Nice report! F/F on a dipsey was our best rod monday. One coho we caught had several black flies in its stomach.
Fish on!

Havn't had a sea worthy boat these last couple years butwhen I did in the mid-nineties, everyone under the sun(including me) was trolling up and down the Inland Steel/Mital/Clevend Cliffs "Hole In The Wall" area from first light out of Pastrick (Jeorse Park for old guys like me) marina to the end of the wall reason being there was a massive amount of bait fish in the area. Everyone was picking up a coho here and there but the bite could have been a lot better.   We decided to venture out a little to the "Gong" and man the coho bite was on fire out there.  Granted I had an Impluse 2000 graph on my Lund which is outdated as heck compared to the graphs now days but it still marked fish and bait fish.  There was hardly any marks but yet they were out there and biting.  Was trolling a dodgers and flies if I remember right.                                                                                                                                              KJK
