Headed out of portage before light to troll for some silver around the Port area.  The waves were challenging at times but hooked up on a nice king at 6:45 right at the start of the break walls.  It hit a 5c with an orange j11 on a planer board. Nothing else for the rest of my solo trip except somehow I caught someone’s submerged net. I thought I had a monster on but nope, just 30 minutes of reeling that in. I’m done with Lake Michigan until winter time perch! Good luck to everyone still trying to find success this fall.

The perch come into the calumet river by 95th street launch in Illinois. December through February they can usually be found. It’s never an easy bite but as long as the water isn’t frozen you can find a few. Good luck if you give it a go!

The winter perch up the river is some of my favorite fishing. Heck of a way to end the season until then! Nice fish!

What kind of net? I lost a brand new one that had never even netted a fish the last time I was out.

The one I caught appeared to be old. Zebra mussels were attached throughout the netting. I’ll see if I have a picture. No stickers or markings on the handle. Non extending and around a 30” opening. Gold handle
