In March I seldom run a dodger and fly. By the end of April I seldom have a line out (for coho) that isn't a dodger and fly.  Right now we are in the transition time.  Yesterday's trip produced a solid bit on both crankbaits and dodgers and flies.  So start mixing a few into your spread - and as usual, solid orange/red produced. There are days when clown or other colors can score, but always put your money on the orange ones. Darker color flies. My fave is always blue/green/gold.

gosh, I hate those "ought" sizes. I wonder what genius ever figured out that sort of numbering system.  I always have to look it up.  I use the size that's dang close to 6-inches.  Some are 5 3/4" another brand is 6 1/8"  I've never caught a fish carrying  a measuring tape. 

Actually, it's not so much about the "size" as it is the "flash" the fish see and react to.  When fishing between dawn and dusk on even an overcast day, the 6" dodgers or flashers will work fine down to 10 or 20 feet all of the time. (Not that you can't catch one on an 8" dodger, but I doubt an 8-incher will out-perform a 6-incher.)  Going deeper (or going from full sun to full overcast) 25 or 30 feet or deeper, start pulling out the bigger "flashers" to attract the fish and go with larger flies so the fish can see them.
