Today is the 19th of September. Silver season is in the coming to an end. There should be a few straglers, but for the most part it should be about done. Maybe a few Zombie fish for a few to cast to.

So over all this season what was your take on your king fishing in Indiana waters?

Most charters out of Michigan city caught very few and did about 95 percent of there fishing in Michigan water.

I had one fantastic day in May where we brought in 6 Kings or so in a few hours in 48 FOW. Else all Michigan waters and it was slow at that.

All of our kings came in the spring and I was actually pleased with their size at the time, the bait available, and that every one was packed full of alewife or spitting them upon landing. Thought, could it be, will the fall be just as good? We made more runs out to Michigan waters from June on this year than ever before and we might do so again if the up close bite remains non-existent. Always incorporated king setups in our spread and caught mixed bags in deep waters but never any more kings.

Agree with the above...best king fishing was spring. Pretty sure I can count on one hand how many we caught the rest of the year...sad..sad..sad

After moving my boat from Portage after 3 years to South Haven I can say the extra hour drive sucks but it paid off as far as catching Kings. From Mid July through August we averaged at least three kings per trip along with a mixed bag of lakers and steel. The biggest bonus was the short run to 100 foot plus depths(about 3.5 to 4 miles)I'm not saying their wasn't slow days but overall the fishing was vastly superior for me. The weather has made the fall in close fishing tough but I think the local Steelheaders plant about 50k Kings so there is at least a limited fall fishery. The perch fishing was also pretty consistent and you have a 35 limit in MI. please don't think I'm bragging here because I certainly wasn't the only one catching. I'm just saying that there are other opportunities if you have a trailerable boat and/or want to get a transient slip for a couple of weeks. I have my boat slipped but I still drive every weekend from Chicago. It's about 2 hours door to slip.

I hope it gets better for you guys. Feel free to PM me if you want a South Haven report next year.

For the same reasons above is why we slip in st joe. 1 hr and 15 min door to sleep or quicker if speeding. Little less than 5 miles to 100 ft.
