Been a slow start to my spring season this year, weather and work schedule have been on opposite tacks for the last month or so. Any how, I took my morning coffee down to the pier with a spinning rod and pocket full of lures. Terns have been starting to work the harbor so you know there’s some bait around. Got to work with chartreuse/green KO as the sun was climbing the horizon. About 15 minutes in my spoon stopped dead a few cranks into the retrieve. Fish came out of the water and just seemed like a typical coho, but then he bull dogged me a little and actually pulled a little drag. Landed the fish thinking coho for dinner, but realized it was actually a shaker king and quickly got him back in the water and on his way. Only hit of the morning. Still waiting to hook my first good spring king from shore, one of these days it’s going to happen.
