TOPIC:

Ran out to Gary hoping to get on the perch Tuesday 3/12. Between the wind and dirty water, decided to go straight to plan B and troll for coho. Had scattered activity throughout the morning  with 10 fish for 3 anglers trolling a 6 rod spread. Thin fins were most consistent  with a couple fish on a clown dodger and purple/black peanut mixed in. We decided to try a quick pass from the first light down to the hole in the wall to finish the day. Got the short spread in the water and had 7 or 8 fish in 15 minutes. Obviously shook a few off to finish with our 15 for the day.  Really nice quality fish..

Wow those are quality fish, nice job and report! I was hoping to see good size coho after early indications of a really strong alewife spawn last year. Looks like dreams may come true after all! 

Was trolling a 6XD on wire just outside the harbor and hooked into a nice pike at 19’. I’m a newbie to salmon compared to y’all, and never caught a pike on Lake Michigan. Are they lately being caught with more frequency or was that pretty much a fluke? 

There are a handful of pike and muskie around, and they seem to be increasing in frequency somewhat. Still occasional catches though. Most common in protected harbor areas with vegetation and rip rap, but they will at times roam out into the lake chasing bait
