Hi guys ,, Not sure this is the right section or not for this idea .  I want to find / make / come up with a rod storage idea that can go in my front pedestal seat mount . 6 - 10 rods , standing straight up , on or around that mount . Center / front of the boat , away from the gunwales for docking , and secured separately , instead of piled on the side . I don't have a rig that arches will work on .  ANY IDEAS , Pics , INFO , would be appreciated ,,,  THAT'S why she is called Always Somethin ,,,

THANKS ,,, Walldady

I've been on a few boats and have seen others set up this way. Sure, the upright storage is better than just having rod/reels laying or leaning along the sides. I've got a "boat rule" on my boat that all rods should be either in a person's hand or in a rod holder. I don't keep track, but I've probably had over a dozen rods accidentally broken on my boat over the years and can only remember one of them being in a rod holder. The homemade storage holders I've seen most often use 1 1/2 or 2-inch PVC pipe (schedule 40) as the tube material. I have a welder and used scrap metal pipes to make the one's on my boat. I've seen some where the builder used PVC pipe fittings Tee's and elbows, but many others that fixed the pipe to buckets, milk crates or 1X3 or 2X4 lumber. All depends on how much of a project you want to make it.

However, in every boat that used the bow pedestal socket, the multi-rod holder right there in the middle of the front deck seemed to always be in the way of people, coolers, tackle boxes. It was like having a spare person on board that was often in the way.

What I've done in all of the boats (all open bow models) is mount spare rod holders on the gunwales, just ahead of the windshield - four rods on each side. They are back far enough that they don't interfere with docking and aren't right in the middle of where coolers, duffle and other gear is stored.

I wanted the same thing, but took a different approach. I don’t have rod storage either on my 96 Lund. I made this rod rack for the back instead of the front. It’s easily removable with two bolts into the floor (threaded inserts), and two thumb screws. Holds 6 rods and keeps my scissors, pliers, and a knife handy. The plastic rod holders were sourced from Amazon. I had the aluminum for the base.

THANKS GUYS ,,, I have rod holders at the back of the boat , but want that cleared while fishing .. I usually bring to many rods / reels , but you never know what is gonna happen and I am prepared for different types of setups and tech.
I have seen the Gunwale storage options , but I do notice that getting in / out of the boat is sometimes easier right in front of the windshield . I will look into moving those forward more towards the point .

STILL PLANNING , Still gathering materials and ideas ,,,

THANKS AGAIN

Bert’s makes a 8 rod holder that plugs into your seat post. Various seat post styles for whatever you need but Tackle haven has it on their site if your looking for something removable. Look up Bert’s custom tackle rod corral.
pics below is what I did with my boat.

I hadn't thought of how on boats with 4 pedestals seats behind the window make it hard to step from a dock down into the bottom of the boat and stepping onto the boat just ahead of the windshields is easier. Mounting storage rod holders there could be an issue. Moving them forward would be one answer as GP showed in his photo. Not sure I'd like them mounted in the "hallway" however.

On my boat, the seats just behind the pedestal seats are built-in bench seats with storage or livewells under them. Easy to use them as a step to get from dock to deck. I've gotten into many other boats that don't have an easy step access into the boat where the captain furnishes a step. Sometimes it's just a sturdy cooler. Some are home-built or commercial folding step stools that can be placed as a step when needed and folds nearly flat once everyone is on board.

They sell these at Bass pro for 30 bucks, and they fit perfectly on a seat post.
