Fished 5:45am till 1:45pm. North of NB towards the dunes. Best water was 140-180 fow. NW- SE troll. Fish caught between 50’ and 70’ down. Even mix of spoons and F/F took fish. Ended with 5 coho, 1 steelhead and 4 kings (1 was really small and shook it off at the back of the boat). So kept 9 fish. Biggest king was mid teens, lost a few other nice fish and had a lot of short bites. Nice calm lake but got hot for sure. Good luck!

Good deal. We were just south in MC and did good as well. Really nice pockets of fish out there. You ain't kidding, it was nice conditions but a scorching it became quick!

Not to try and hijack a post here, but could anybody tell me how far out of a run I have to make from port out of new Buffalo to find the deeper water? I fish from a smaller 16’ boat.. the only time I ever fish down there is early spring typically I fish more northern ports from south haven to ludington But by the looks of things, the lake could be pretty rough up that way by the time I’m able to get out Saturday so I’m looking to expand my options and was curious just how far out I have to go in Buffalo to find deep but more more importantly cold water, also is new Buffalo similar to Michigan city where a hard south wind can pull cold water in? thanks

It took us 8mi to hit 100fow in MC. St Joe took us 5mi. We are in same rig, 16ft, so just got to use common sense and watch the forecasts.

330 heading out of NB gets you to deepest water quickest. Never measured how many miles but would guess around 7. I don’t have a fish hawk but stroke of luck stated the cold water was about 70’ down in his last report from 8/2 I believe.

Generally no - New Buffalo and St. Joe are "around the curve" of the lake from Michigan City so you typically need a northerly and/or easterly wind to get cold upwellings. A strong southeast wind will sometimes do it. Or if there's a big enough north blow and it creates a current that brings down cold water from the north
