I am by no way a battery tech. I have been lucky. The batteries in my polarcraft are now 8 yrs. old. Still seem to be in good shape. Alot of what DirtyX mentioned is very good advice in keeping your battery up.
The folks were I bought my polarcraft mentioned that the charger in my boat is set up for the style battery that is in it. The more expensive sealed batteries require my charger to be reset to another setting. Just passing this on, as you need to get information on your charging system, and follow their directions. I used to take out my batteries for winter and put them back in the spring. Now I leave them in, keep my charger plugged in, and a couple of days per week I let them charge for at least 6hrs. Equipment and tech is changing fast, stay with what your boat manufacture has suggested and should will be fine.

I don't know what has happened to my battery, but I have been leaving my starter battery in my boat. I actually get out once a month when it is not being used and start the engine and let it run off a hose connection to keep the battery charged and keep from actually winterizing the engine. Normally it is just a tap on the key and it is off and running. This time nothing. I hooked the battery to my charger and nothing happened there either. No charging lamp would light up, just the on lamp would work. I checked other batteries and the charger lights functioned as they should. I took one of my trolling motor batteries and then started the Merc 150. It ran as normal.
So I have been researching some batteries and an Interstate starter battery looks good. I have had good luck on some batteries from Walmart and Autozone in the past. The up side to those companies is they have stores everywhere in case you need a replacement or other warranty issues.

I run Walmart batteries as my trollers. The starting battery came with the boat new last Sept of 14. From everything I have read there is only like 2 or 3 factories that make all the batteries. I have run Walmart batteries in my Jeeps (they get off-roaded so the batteries get bounced around) and they seem to hold up fine - but I always get the gold ones which have the better warranties. I had to replace my one trolling battery last year - I was 5 or 6 years old I believe. Not a long time boat owner so take it for what its worth.

My internet searches have shown there is not a lot available in the series of battery I am going to replace. It is a 24M series that has 1000 MCA and 800 CCA capabilities. So happens there are several Interstate dealers within 15 miles of my home. There is a Batteries Plus store in town and they sell a Duracell marine battery. I have never used these before, is there anybody with any knowledge of these batteries?

I currently have an interstate 1000 MCA and 800 CCA as my starting battery. it is a 27M though however. It has been very good for me. She is on her 4th year and going strong. If you have the space I would consider the 27M. It has more capacity, which means you will discharge her less - potentially leading to a longer life.

I am sure the Duracell batteries are just fine as well. Looked at their tech specs and they look good, plus I would tend to think they wouldn't want to put their name on junk........hopefully lol.
