Got a bit of a late start but was on the water by 9. It was a struggle for us today. We ended up 4 for 6 and an 8" throwback for good measure lol....Started at Gary then moved back by portage after that. Neither was better for us than the other. Either way I will take it for a shake down trip ;)

I wonder how everyone else did.

Nice! Trolling? Or did you do some casting?

Trolled the Gary Light with my dad and sister (her first trip since we were kids) today and ended up 2 for 3. We had a great day on the water, but things were slow. We watched several boats catch fish with their spinning gear, but we did not have our gear to cast with us.

We caught the fish on a mixed bag:
1) pink fire tiger
2) orange crush spoon
3) red flasher and blue fly

Looking forward to better days ahead!

We started casting but the wind was a pain and we were at the back of the line as I wasnt going to wedge myself in between guys. After 45 mins or so we just put a troll on. All fish came in different locations and all on different rods  . 1 spoon and the rest cranks. The brads were the only thing that didnt fire in the spread...... Water was 35-36 degrees.

A buddy texted me some pics of his 3 man limit trolling in the ship channel. The ship channel is probably the best place to troll real early in the season as the water temps are perfect and your pretty much always outta the wind. 6 other boats were in there and getting fish also ....

Awesome. Glad you made it out for the shakedown trip. Badredram, I believe the ship channel Poorboy is referring to goes by several names. Indiana Harbor, Inland Harbor, etc. It's located in between Hammond Marina and Pastrick (East Chicago) Marinas. Check it out on the topo maps in the resources section.
