Gentlemen, I'm thinking of replacing my cranking battery. Just wondered if anyone has any recommendations as to whats good or bad? Current battery is ok, I just realized it will be going on it's 10th season...I'm afraid I might be pushing my luck.
Needing a 24 group size 800CCA. Saw some good reviews on advance auto parts batteries, saw some not so good reviews on walmart and interstate batteries. Just thought I'd see what you guys use, and sorry if this is the wrong forum to ask.

Holy @#$#@$ borrowed time for sure!

I think your ok as long as you dont go to a flea market and buy "bob's batteries". Most batteries are made by the same few manufacturers with minimal design differences. Interstate is probably the easiest to get. Also if you can manage to fit a class 27, I would recommend getting it. The less you deplete a lead acid battery, the longer it lasts. A larger battery gives you more capacity and reserve. If you are always trolling, then this is likely not an issue.

If you search back like 2 or 3 months there was another discussion on batteries. I agree with Dirty - I think there are 2 or 3 companies that make all the batteries. My son had a battery from Autozone and it did not last that great (car battery though). I have used the Walmart gold batteries and have had great luck with both auto and boat. If you want the best battery go with the gel battery like the Optima batteries - you will pay through the nose but they are great batteries that have good life and are better for the rough waters.

Thanks Jeff, I only use this boat on the big lake and trolling. It's funny, I live in lafayette, and have had this boat for 10 years and it has seen nothing but lake michigan!! I was just going by what is installed in there now
