OK not the best idea today but went to the gary light this morning. Launched out of Portage a little before 7. Some rollers but didnt seem too bad. By the time we got to the light the rollers had gotten a little worse but figured we would put some lines out. Ended up going 4 for 5; 3 in the box 1 got away and 1 was just barely legal so threw him back. 3 of 4 on downriggers at 6' down and thin fins and 2 on loose lines one with a thin fin and one with the Coho Killer that someone posted about a couple days ago. We couldnt get lines back in the water fast enough for about 45 minutes then it just turned off. my 9:30 the winds were picking up so headed out for a long wavy ride back to Portage. I would guess 4 to 5 footers on the way back is my guess. From reports of guys that stayed right outside of Portage they did much better.. It was also my first time with the riggers so there was a bit of time getting that all figured out. All in all a good first year outing (other than the waves).

[edit] the only picture I have from this morning. [/edit]

You should be fine if you stay by the beach or just outside the breakwall. Still was maybe 5 or 6 boats out there when we came in and I would say half were under 17' and under 75 horse (not sure what you run). We would have stayed out but we were kind of beat up after the ride back from Gary. They did well outside portage this morning so hopefully you will do well. Look forward to hearing your report.

Yep that is the one - my cousin went out and got it after he read your report. Thanks for the info - it seems to be a winner.

Was it the shallow short or the shallow long version? I recently ordered a shallow short one in the coho crusher. Hope to get it soon as I am planning a one day trip next Saturday if the conditions are okay. I can't stand it any longer. All these reports plus what is not reported, I just hope there is one or two left for me.

I think is was the short but not positive. I shot him an email so will let you know once I find out. We are tentatively going out Friday morning so may have more to report before your Saturday trip.

It was definitely the shallow short Coho Crusher for us. Maybe it was just the "hot" bait but I think it looked pretty awesome in the water. Good luck out there and hope to hear the report.
