TOPIC:

We launched out of East Chicago this morning and made the run to the Gary area aboard the finally named Angry Pirate, formally known as the generic BlackRanger. After 2+ years, Bill finally settled on a name for his boat. We trolled up on a nice pod of fish in the bathtub inside the breakwall of Gary Light. Every style of bait was taking fish but the red thin fins were doing damage early followed by orange 00 dodgers and aqua/green flies later in the morning. It was pretty steady action all morning. Most hits came at a 2.8-3.0 mph speed at the ball. The water was around 44 degrees in the harbor area and we were reading 41-42 down the wall and the water was cloudy but nowhere near as dirty as I thought it would be. We finished 20-26(or so) and had a couple that we had to release as we were clearing lines at the end.

Still did not find any bait in the stomachs of any of these fish but they are getting bigger every week.

Always a good time fishing but the conditions were not that enjoyable. Especially for one of our guys that decided to go without rain gear today. The ride back in was a wet one and the water filled his clothes and was pouring out of him like a faucet back at the dock.

Nice work! Looks like the weather is turning for the better this week. Hopefully the fishing stays as good as it has been for those of you braving the conditions over the last few weeks.
