So I'm finally getting around to thinking about running a meat rig.
I haven't yet because, hassle, expense, don't want bait on the boat (grew up in MN to a whole family of bait draggers), hassle of the bait-getting, freezing, remembering to bring ........
So if you had one color and/or style to buy and use spring to fall what would it be? Do you use cut or whole ??

I started using them for the first time this year. I have had mixed results but am an amateur at running them as well so I am sure others will have very insightful suggestions. Your right that it is a hassle and remembering the bait sometimes does not happen lol. I ran whole and cut, neither seemed to do better than the other for me. I ran them on john kings, spin doctors, and pro troll's. I honestly had the best success on pro trolls. Could be coincidence because my overall sample size was limited.

I had some good luck using the Brad's Super Bait and Super Cut plug this year. All you have to do is keep a can or two of tuna in oil or herring in oil, even sardines in oil in the boat. Keep a P-38 and a small box of crackers in the glove box in case the fish aren't biting and its lunch time.

ok so I just ordered some rigs off ebay in green and black and red. now the hardest part where do I get the meat. sorry steelie don didn't go with the plugs.

check with calumet marine and maybe Slez's (not sure if he caries meat or not tbh) - or better yet get a sabiki rig and go catch alewives near shore.

NBK spin doctor on a dipsy....that flasher catches fish every time there are fish in the area. Chrome one not the plastic one.

Oh and I usually use the pre cut herring strips from Cal city marine. Frank's a good guy over there.

First I want to thank you for all the help on the meat rigs. I got 2 from ebay- eddies meat rigs.
Went out of NB yesterday and hit grease trying for silver. First came on a mr green jeans 40 down 30 back in 89 fow Second was on my newly aquired meat rig run off braid and a dipsy at 123' out. Ran the meat behind a green and silver protroll 8" flasher.
