RIP Dr. Howard Tanner.  102 years old.    Howard Tanner did not stock salmon to “get rid of” alewives in the sense of eradicating them, but rather to control their population through predation, stabilize the ecosystem, and create a sustainable world class sport fishery.   Discovering this fishery was life changing for myself and a lot of people I know.

Dave your so right. I haven't been able to get your last sentence out of my head. All I have been doing is replaying years gone by. Friends made in those years. Changes to equipment. New fishing stuff over those years. And I keep asking myself where would I be today had Howard not tried. I guess growing up with this fishery makes it special. How many fishermen get to experience the scream of a reel drag with a good king run. Changes over those years in the lake. So many thoughts, and so many years of having this fishery in our back yard. I turned 71 this year. I was around 13 or 14 when I caught my first Coho. 17 with my first King. I can't stop asking my self what if we didn't have this fishery?
