The first several years I fished Lake Michigan I kept a log. Parts of it helped, parts of it didn't. Things like cloud cover, wind direction, barometric pressure, time of day, hours fished and stuff like that didn't give me much insight. Not that some days maybe they were the key, but it wasn't anything I could put a finger on or figure out for the long run. I've never said, "The barometer is falling so I need to fish with spoons."

Still, it's a great way to keep track of how, where and when you caught fish and do include a comments section. Say you caught most of your fish on chartreuse lures. A comment might point out the water was especially murky from a recent blow. The point is murky-water = chartreuse lures not April 15 = chartreuse lures.
