Bought 1200 yards of suffix 832 super braid. Now need ur help to decide should I spool up 4 rods with 300 yards or 3 rods with 400 yards? My other 2 or 3 rods are going to get mono whether they like it or not. I plan to run 2 flat lines 2 dipseys and 2 boards in spring. Come summer time I plan on running 4 dipseys and 2 boards. I see a lot of people say too run braid to the Dipsy. Trying to stretch out $$$! Also should a question like this go here in water cooler or in Salmon & trout? Thanks for any info and opinions.

If you want to use braid that’s fine and it works well but I would not load the entire reel up with braid. Most of it it will never see the light of sun plus if you don’t get it on the reel very tight the braid will dig into the spool and you will snap off. If I were you I would put 600 feet of braid than everything underneath that use mono. I would do that with your dispsy as well. For spring fishing you really don’t need braid for your long lines. They are benifits but for just getting started it’s not needed. Personally my spring flat lines for coho I don’t use braid my copper reels that’s a different story.

I agree. Save your $$, mono underneath the braid.

For mono backing 30lbs is fine. For your board line use 25 or 30 lbs Floralcarbon line as a leader after your braid. Many guys use 20 lbs for there floral leaders but for a beginner I would use 25 or 30. Be sure to always run your fingers down that floral if there are any nicks in the line it will break. Practice with your knots besure you wet them when tieing. Not sure of your overal all experience so I don’t mean to offend you if you know.

Big Game for Mono works well. For Floro leader I would suggest Blood Run or another mfg such as seaguar or Pline that makes Floro leader material. Its more expensive but holds up better. Dont buy a spool of casting floro line. Leader material is much more abrasion resistant. These abrasions primarily happen when netting etc.

I agree with the guys who say mono-backing and braid on top and I'd suggest 30 pound Trilene Big Game as the backing but realistically, since it's not going to see the light of day until 2023 or so, any brand will do. Good thing about TBG is it's good line and affordable.
I can't imagine needing more than 150 yards of braid on top. If you have so many "wrecks" you go through 150 yards frequently, you need to rethink your trolling strategies. I can't ever remember a fish running me down to the backing.
I use 30 pound braid for diver rods. The advantage is thin line, no stretch. I hear of guys using 40 or 50 braid fpr divers but they are sacrificing thinness and depth potential.
I use 20 pound braid on downrigged lines once I start setting lines more than 40 feet deep or so. It reduces blowback on the downrigger weights and (especially for lakers) makes those 100 foot plus catches fun to catch because there's no stretch in the line and you can feel the fight.
I never use braid on planer board lines for trolling lures close to the surface for spring cohos, steelhead, nearshore kings. Here, the stretch in mono helps keep the fish on the line and mono works better in pinch pad releases on both big boards and in-line planers.
I do use "castable" fluorocarbon as leaders. It's not as abrasion resistant, but we aren't often fishing where abrasion is an issue. Check the line frequently and retie if needed. When you retie, be glad you are using castable. It's easier to tie and make good knots.
