In the market for a smoker. Anyone have an opinion on a good one?

I have 3. One Masterbuilt electric, one of their gas/wood/charcoal cabinet models and a Pit Boss pellet grill/smoker. All do the job but the pellet grill has given the best result for me. They are easy to use but cost a bit more to use. The gas combo will do a good job and needs no electric. Requires more attention on temps and smoke levels. The electric ones are the cheapest to use and require little attention but gave me the least smoked taste and overall food quality.

I have decided to get a Pit Boss pellet upright smoker and get rid of my other 2 units. I like the pellet stuff that much. This model will be cheaper to use over the grill/ smoker that I have. Overall smaller in size it will take less pellets to use. Costs for a large unit cost about $400 and nice medium size about $300. I really like the lakers I make with the pellet smoker. I have a pit boss upright (copper head 5) and I love it. It is our first smoker and made breaking into the smoking super easy and it does a fantastic job. We have had ours for almost 2 years and at the time we found the best price at Walmart.

That is the model I am interested in also Ed. Very nice unit and holds a lot of food for smoking. I love the temp ranges on this unit. You can almost cold smoke with it at 150 degrees. Cook chickens and steaks at 400 plus.

I have had a number of them. I will now never use anything other than a pellet smoker. Its easy and clean. It has taken the place of my weber charcoal, my weber gas grill, and my electric smoker.

+1 for the pellet grill / smoker. I was going to buy a Pit Boss upright smoker model this spring but my regular grill took a shit right before the purchase. So I ended up with a full sized grill smoker combo. Two birds one stone. Easy to clean and simple to operate.

I use the digital electric masterbuilt unit. As was previously mentioned it doesn't do great with smoke right out of the box. But if you add the electric cold smoke box it turns the masterbuilt unit into a smoker that's 10x better. With that box you no longer have to use the main unit to produce smoke, you just type in the temp you want,set it and forget it. The smoke box holds enough chips for about 3 hrs, so you don't have to fill it much. Love my masterbuilt smoker with the smoke box attachment

I got lucky and sold my 2 Masterbuilt smokers recently and got unlucky in that Walmart sold out of the Copperhead 5 units. So plan B was put into work and a Pit Boss Mahogany 4 Pro Series from Lowes was bought instead. Very similar unit in size and capacity and has a temp probe. Cost was $399 which was only 3 bucks more. Can’t wait to try it out on some butts and some briskets.
