I am looking to invest in some sunglasses for fishing the big lake:
- Costas vs a mid priced brand
- Lens color- Blue vs brown vs green. Really need help here

I go have a wide/fat head and will need readers. Costa Tuna Alley meets these needs for $209. Can get any of the colors above.

I have some Costas with the reader bi-focals. I got them in the brown (don't remember why) and on a bright sunny day, they are NOT up to the task. By the end of the day, my eyes feel like there is sand in them. (Sunburn!) I have another pair from ONOS which are much better and less than half the price. I like the "placement" of the reader lenses in the ONOS, as well.
I'm not sure about the blue or green is better.
All that being said, the one's I used all last summer were Julbo Reactive Lens which are a form of "photo-chromatic" which get darker as the sun gets brighter. Very comfy and very easy on my eyes from the sunburn standpoint. The downside is they aren't "bifocal" but they are so comfy and dark when needed it's worth keeping a pair of cheaters close at hand.
I wrote a review of the Julbos and went way into the weeds into sunglass "lingo." Long and short is the Julbo "reactive" lens furnishes more "shade" (darker) than Costa and other brands.
The other downside is they aren't polarized which really isn't necessary as much on the big lake as they are when bass fishing or other inland fishing. Still, I like them. Mine have the orange-mirror finish.
Personally, I think the "designer" brands are not worth the extra price to have a chrome O or C on the frame.

I have costas and love them. I have tuna alley blue lenses since lm is clear blue offshore most of the time. They have saved me from headaches after everything before I had them. Ive had them for about 4 years now. They also have lifetime warranty. My son dropped them and scratched my lense, they gave me a new pair no issues.

Also go with the 580p lenses in glass or plastic for best clarity.

I use H30 sunglasses with a lens prescription.....I am partial to the polarized glasses from my musky fishing days.
They are light weight and very durable.

I had a regular pair of sunglasses, which didn’t quite cut it for me. They’d just make everything appear darker and it would be harder to see in certain outdoor lighting situations. I’d still go home at the end of a day on the water with a headache.

I researched and researched and ended up buying a pair of Costa Rincon polarized glasses with a blue lens last year, which is what is specifically recommended for people who spend time on the water. The polarized lens blocks out UV rays and the blue helps filter out reflected blue light. Longterm UV ray exposure contributes to eye damage over time and both UV rays and reflected blue light contribute to eye fatigue. Well, that’s at least how they explain it. I have, however, been very pleased with them. I don’t have to squint anymore and don’t get headaches or eye fatigue from sun glare like I used to after being out in the sun and on the water for 8 hours. I don’t struggle to see things because the polarized lens doesn’t really make things look “darker” or “dim” in certain lighting situations. It just filters out UV rays and blue light. Totally different than just regular sunglasses.

I’m sure there are other good brands. I just happened to go with Costa because I know people who use them and like their product.

My wife got me a pair of Costa Saltbreak's (Glass) for my birthday this past year since I would not spend that much myself on sun glasses. They are fantastic for the big lake.

Do not rule out Oakley deep water lenses. They come in several different frames.

Paul, checked out the h3o folks and it is a cool product. Like 3 pairs of glasses in one. My head is too wide for the only frame that comes with readers. Bummer, but thanks for a quality lead!
