I found this in my email today from an old friend. Loved the 70's!

Here's another picture from about the same time frame. This is Larry (Wildkat 2 Captain) & me. It sure was the good old days back then.

Love the early pictures. Manual Riviera Downriggers, listening to the sound of the cables to determine speed and knowing how to use a compass. It all seemed so simple in the beginning. Is the Lickety-Split a Slickcraft Ed?

Hey Dave,
exactly right watch the tach, the cables singing and a Lowrance blue water pro flasher. This was my second boat. 18ft. Starcraft with a 115 Merc outboard. First boat was a 14ft. nymph with a 1968 Johnson 10hp. Upgraded from the 10 horse to a new 25 horse. Then to the boat in the picture.
That Starcraft went to many spots to fish and took us for our first trip to Erie. The days of 50:1 mix

Those are cool old picture Ed. I wasn’t around in the 70’s to experience those true hay days if it all, but I did get to enjoy some good old days in the 80’s and 90’s. What strikes me is how many more people used to fish back in those days. My dad would take me to Cal Park, Dean Mitchell, State Line, the Nipsco at Michigan City... seems like every guy in 100mi radius would hit the lake every weekend. It like a ghost town now compared to those days.

Agreed. There were so many more inshore opportunities then for small boats. I remember fishing out of St Joseph in the 80s and we hardly ever had to go into 100 foot plus to catch fish. Now after the spring, it’s pretty much all offshore which doesn’t play well for small boats.

Thank you for the pictures :)
