I was going through this old chart book for Lake Michigan and came across these old pics of the ditch.

I do remember when the ditch basically dumped straight out into the lake with no E-W breakwall guarding the mouth. I don't remember there ever being a "wide spot" around where the river walk is now located.  That "bridge" looking thing I think was a pipeline crossing the ditch. I remember it well because that's the first place I ever fished for coho - from the shore, right by that crossing on the west side. Either 1968 or 69, spring break from college. Didn't catch anything, but it was thrilling just to try.
