I've used ball bearings swivel and cross lock since I found then for the very first time back in the early 80s. Using the ball bearing swivel it allows any twisted line to un twist and stay that way. 

Also, when a fish is jumping and twisting the swivel eliminates twisted line.

Just what I do.

The knot is always a weak link and it's not like soaking it in water makes is stronger. That's one of the reasons to tie direct as often as possible. It forces me to retie frequently so I have fresh knots.
