I'm going to try the Amish outfitters bags next year. I have been using the red heavy bags from BPS and they only last a couple trips. If anyone has a better suggestion I would like to hear it

I have a 5 Gallon bucket with holes in the bottom for a troll "sock". It actually works well if you don't mind the plastic knocking on the boat every now and then. I connect it to the front winch connection and it worked well for me this spring and you can pick them up for cheap and they should last for years. Note my boat is a 17.5 Foot so may need 2 buckets for a 28 footer.

Never used them but I've never heard any bad reviews of the Amish Outfitter bags.

I used the 2 bucket used the 2 bucket idea on our old 18 ftr and your right those worked great for that size.

I just ordered 2 22' amish outfitter trolling bags. They said 1 28 inch is recommended for a 27 ftr so I figured 2 22' will be enough and have 1 on each side to balance it out. Seen only amazing reviews for them.

Reel distraction...how many and what sized hole did you drill in your buckets?
I used buckets a couple times on those spring sw winds...I didn't drill holes though and did bend the handles.

I have always used bags. Big Ed might be able to help with the bucket setup.

Buckets work well with about 5 to 8 holes drilled in the bottom. You also want to change the handle with trying the rope directly to the bucket itself.

A friend of mine uses buckets some of the time. he doesn't tie directly to the bucket, but he had replaced the wire handles with rope handles with a Carribeaner in the middle to connect the bucket to the tether. He's drilled about 10 half-inch holes in the bottom. I've been on many boats using bags, as well. What I don't like about the bags is they are a wet mess when you haul them in. Buckets, not so much. Personally, I'd go with the buckets first to see if they do the job for you for a few bucks rather than spending the money for the bags at the get go.
