My wife and I spent some time yesterday at Bodine fish hatchery. What we were able to observe was the Skamania Steelhead  getting spawned. What a operation!!! It was all hands on deck, Mixsawbah had sent over help to keep the process working. Each female was stripped of eggs,(approx. 4000) and sperm already collected was applied to the eggs. Ben was monitoring and collecting CWT tags. As you know Indiana has done this exact process for decades to help all states enjoy this wonderful fish. Bodine will have a representative at our spring meeting. Have some questions? They will be there to answer directly.

Just a thought,,,,, it was damn cold yesterday but the work has to get done. When the fish are ripe the operation has to take place. So regardless of weather conditions our hatchery folks are getting it done.

Thanks for the update, Ed. Also, thanks to all of those involved with the INDNR at the hatchery for helping to insure we have a future fishery.

A few pictures from the spawning. The month of January is a big month for Bodine. They service a number of fish every week till the job is done. This next week will be the end of their work for the spawning Skamania. Will be heading out to serve up lunch for all the DNR folks that was involved. The first picture is the new manager for Bodine, Alexander Ingersoll spawning one of the Skamania, assisted by assistant manager for Mixsawbah Ken Wetzel.
