Ten days and counting to the grandaddy of all Great Lakes salmon tournaments - the Hoosier Coho Club Classic.
At 42 consecutive years, the Classic is the longest running contest of its kind in the Midwest. Teams from all four Lake Michigan states will compete for over $40,000 in cash and merchandise.
The Michigan City event features a $10,000 top prize in the Pro division ($475 entry), $2,500 plus a $2,000 Simrad unit for first place in the Amateur division ($225 entry) and $1,250 for the 24U small boat division champ ($100 entry).
Additional thousands are up for grabs in big fish, second-day and 333 side pots. Each captain also receives a "goody
bag" stuffed with $100 in lures and sponsor gifts.
Boats blast-off from within one-half mile of the Michigan City Lighthouse at 7 a.m. each day, then return to weigh the day's catch by 1 p.m. The drama-packed, final-five weigh-in, where nobody knows who wins until the last fish is weighed, takes place at 2 p.m. on Sunday afternoon in the big tent at Washington Park Marina.
As always, plenty of food and beverages will be available at the weigh-ins, which are open to the public.
And, for the fourth consecutive year, the Hoosier Coho Club will sponsor a team from the Michigan City High School fishing club in the Classic.
The Hoosier Coho Club also hosts a couple tune-up contests - the April 23 Pro/Am and the April 29 Hartman Memorial. Both of these events feature simple rules and five fish-limits.
An added bonus this year is a "30-for-30" contest where $3,030.30 will be awarded to the first HCC club member ($20 dues) catching a 30-pound lake trout.
Complete rules, registration forms and more information on all the contests is at
