A new study from Oregon State University shows hatcheries change fish at the genetic level and at a stunningly fast pace.

See www.oregonlive.com (Hatchery life changes fish genetics, Oregon study finds, 2/17).

Previous studies showed hatchery-raised fish and wild fish differed in survival and reproductive success, but scientists were unclear whether DNA-level differences were behind the phenomena.

Interesting read, thank you. The first thought that goes thru my head is: " Is this possibly why wild fish are showing up in bigger numbers than hatchery fish"?
Our fish have been inbred for a very long time. Same streams taking fish, raising those fish, and repeating the process. Heck it would be an improvement if we traded fertilized eggs between the states. The old days of getting a fresh group of eggs from the west coast are not even thought of anymore. :pinch:
