TOPIC:

Took a trip north with my wife and son to do some fishing. Great reports of kings between Sheboygan and Sturgeon Bay put me right in the middle out of Kewaunee. Left Sunday morning and after a couple potty breaks we finally made it to salmon harbor marina.
After settling the boat into its slip and talking with an old timer about the fishing we took a trip to Algoma to pick up some licenses and since it was cheaper for the 2 day license vs a one day and stamp we hurried back to wet some lines, I'm glad we did!! Lake was near flat except for some swells and after setting the last line a 100 copper fired. It came off right away and after checking it the 200 copper goes screaming! Wife got on that one and in came a 10lb king. Bites were pretty steady afterwards but nothing would come to the net, even lost a nice fish inches from being scooped. After sundown the fishing kept going but being in an unfamiliar area I decided to pull lines. Sure enough I had a shaker king on a rigger and as I was working on getting him back in the water the last rod in goes and my wife brings in the 2nd fish to the box, 7lb king. If all the lost fish made it to the box our trip would have been over that night. 
Day 2 was nothing like the night before. Fog was thick and the fishing was tough. 5am to noon and the only hit was a steelhead on a slider. Fought like crazy but like the majority of fish the night before it didn't stay hooked up. 
Was definitely different fishing 100+ fow well within sight of shore! !
Back to the old timer, when I asked whats biting coho? Lake trout? He gave me a chuckle and said no cohos here, only Chinook and bows. I thought I was in paradise! Definitely will have to make time to go back for the staging kings and salmon harbor marina was a very nice place to stay!

Nice job. Thought of trying that KD Derby but never pulled the trigger.

Nice job! Cool pics. Different to see that 227 fow so close to shore. 

That nearshore deep water made for some wicked currents! Going with the waves I'd have the kicker 1/4 throttle to put a bend in the dipsy rod then turn into the waves on idol just to stay under 2.7!

I can say I'd rather loose that many kings than land that many lakers!

All work and no fishing was making me go nuts! I needed a fix that coho and lake trout just weren't doing for me
