Well I scratched one off the bucket list - spent some quality time with my three boys and fished three days captain's choice trips with D&G Charters in Homer, Alaska.  This was my first trip to Alaska and hopefully not my last!
First trip we put some miles on and the 19yr old captain put us on the big halibut right away.  Ended up with our limits of halibut, rock fish (blacks, yellow eye & quill backs) and a few bonus ling cod.

During that trip our 1rst mate hooked into and landed a 100lb halibut while messing around with the captain's bass rod with 12lb test!  And my son landed a 70lber!

Fishing for kings was really slow for several weeks prior to us going up there but thankfully I was able to convince the captain to try anyway on our 2nd trip.  Especially since one of the guests was getting sea sick.  We trolled with two rods only, on the riggers with large flashers and spoons.  They literally trolled figure 8's over any marks on the screen.  It was very interesting and also very difficult to keep my mouth shut with advice on what else to try!  We ended the day with our halibut, rockfish, cod and 6 kings 10-15 lbs, which was the only salmon for the trip and only 1 fish per person on the boat

The last trip proved to be the toughest with the weather not allowing us to get to the desired fishing grounds but we were still able to get our limit of halibut and a few grey cod after the picture was taken.

All in all an awesome trip, its absolutely beautiful up there and the high summer time temperatures in the lower to mid 60's suits me well!

Awesome job. Always great to be out with the boys. I was up in Alaska myself with the wife from July 5 through the 16th. We were also in Homer from The 7th through the ninth. We do not do any fishing this time. I’ve been in Alaska three times, is a very special place. Every outdoorsman owes it to himself / herself to at least see Alaska once. And for most that will not be the last.

I'd love to go to Alaska! I'll be turning 65 September 12 so I'm not getting any younger but I am getting in better shape.
