We fished MC today with two boats and four fishermen, tried 10fow-50fow. Marked a few fish (thought were perch) but not one caught. Not even a bite. I wonder where they are?

It’s been a strange summer. There’s a lot of perch out there but I think it’s a matter of getting the proper winds/currents plus presence of bait for them to really turn on inshore. I know from past fishing that after several warm days with prevailing south winds seemed to have been when I have had my best luck on summer perch in the Portage and MC areas. They are out there, but I think with almost each day having a different wind direction has been having a big impact on our success chasing those fish. I’m having perch withdrawals for sure! I’ve also noticed a lot of marks on the bottom that I have to believe are perch or at least a mix of baitfish and perch but so far this summer, I haven’t caught a fish fishing right in those marks.

Water temps are too warm inshore. Keep an eye on the buoy out of MC and look for a good thermocline. Fish that depth when it finally shows up after some South wind and they’ll be there.

I have spent the last 3 days going from US Steel to east of the donut. I have tried spots where I have caught perch to new spots where I picked up fish on the bottom and not one perch. I was logging on here to ask the same question.

Maybe the perch caught COVID-19, and have been quarantined elsewhere. I guess we should wait 14 days before trying again.LOL
