From the number of boats out this morning, either everyone figured, "It's time" or the word spread other than on this forum the fish are in. Reports from southenders are sparse. I didn't count them but several dozen fish chasers from 15 to 50 feet of water were out. Maybe they are all Captain Ralph subscribers. I heard he was at Portage some last week.

I don't blame the fishers for being out. Wonderful day and surprisingly good fishing for a mixed catch of cohos, kings and steelhead. Most of my fish came from 17 to 40 FOW. Took fish on spoons, RTs and dodger/flies.

I'm hoping these early-run fish are a sign of a great fall run!

Hey Mike,

I'd like to consider myself one of those invaders, but then again I had to get my fix before the shooting starts and I switch gears here in the next week. It was combat fishing at it's finest for awhile...very enjoyable! Actually, it wasn't bad at all I thought, other than guys putting their boat in neutral to fight fish and trying to troll around them, which was a new one for me. Fishing was nothing short of fantastic out there...had 5 kings and lost plenty more, all dark, and get this: all fin clipped to my surprise! Maybe there will be a fall run out there after all and an actual return. Spin Doctors and plugs did all the work for us. The cold water break out front is unbelievable. Might just have to sneak away mid week and play with them again...

Good to see you yesterday, Matt! I could have used the Fowl Play last week when I was in Florida! I'll still trade my Flambeau Super Mags for it.... You know they don't make 'em anymore.
