I have several and I run them from time to time but I have had zero success. Anyone running them with success? Is there a trick to making them work? I can free up a good amount of tackle box space if these things are no longer effective for some reason.

Thanks,

Craig

I ran 4 j plugs a week ago two on dipsey two on riggers concentrated them within 6-8 feet of the bottom not too sure that mattered but caught most of my fish of them which consisted of two coho n two kings in shallow water 38 fow some days I can get a bite on them other days nothing I normally only run j plugs in the fall n try to run them closer to bottom but that's just my two cents o as far as color went that day it didn't matter

J-plugs are a king bait. I had little success catching anything else except kings running them. If you have a lot of kings around run them. But over the years we see less king, so to use all rods with them on means you are targeting just kings. When I started fishing the lake 15yrs ago, in the fall we had up to 4 weeks of acfion, lots of coho and kings. J-plugs and glow 1oz krocks off boards were money. Now you lucky to get a week of fall fishing. Mike

I Have a lot of confidence in them, pretty much all season. I usually fish them on a deep rigger or long lines, but occasionally they get deployed on dipsies. I've got a pretty good collection of the jointed ones and a lot of #3's. If I'm running a dodger/fly speed I tend to use the jointers, flashers and spinnies go with the standard plugs, but that's just a guideline. Metallics in the sun, glow/ early/late/deep, chartruse/free black ladder back in dirty water.

Cool. I guess I'll keep trying them. Are they speed sensitive at all? Seem the way the move too much speed could cause them to spin out.

I've caught all species on J-plugs. They are speed tolerant and you can run them from 1.5 to3.5. I don't always have one out mid-May to mid-August but this time of year it's 50/50. Glows in the gloom - silver in the sunshine. #3 and #4.
