Hey guys. Still new out on the big pond and am seeking some advice about planer boards...

We currently run 4 TX-44s by Church Tackle. They handle waves great and can easily pull our 300' copper. Thinking about getting a couple more planer boards ... always looking for new ways to tangle ;) ...
Anyways, I don't feel it's necessary to have these TX-44 monster boards for the furthest outside, since at most its only pulling a 5C.
Thinking about the walleye boards by Church Tackle but have some hesitations...
-How will they handle waves?
-We do not use the releases (bring boards to boat, then fight fish). How do they hold to braid backing? Our TX-44s we added a metal pin and wrap around those and now don't have any problem, but I am concerned that it will slide down to the knot. Not interested in tying a small mono strip to our rigs either.
-Any other suggestions/thoughts for adding a couple of boards?

I'm learning a lot, especially how fun fighting a screaming king is! Thanks in advance.
Nate

Church walleye boards are great. will easily handle 10 color setups. Easily handles 200 ft of copper as well. 1 to 2 ft waves seem to be no issue either. I use 40# braid on my board rods and I twist the line when pinning it 5 or 6 times then put a single wrap of braid around a clamp surface. I have not had a accidental release yet. IMO the church boards are very easy to use.

Thanks for the response, Don. Couple questions...
1) How do they handle waves over 2 ft?
2) Is the pin plastic? If so, do you have any issues with the braid cutting into the plastic?

Thanks again!

Walleye boards work great. I have no problem running 300 coppers off them. Just move the weight all the way forward. I would also advise getting the metal pins from blood run or calumet marine. This allows you to make the pin the primary anchor point by twirling the board after you get the line under the pin, then in the pinch release. We were in 3's on sunday morning and the boards were just fine.

My boards still have the plastic pin and no issues yet. Mine are used 5 or 6 times per year though. I have fished in waves over 3 foot before but the boards were moving and jumping in and out of the water with the waves. They were doing the job however I was not sticking around to give them a long time in the rough water. That was too much for my little alumacraft at the time. As Dirty said they work great.

I have the Walleye boards and the waves are fine but change out the top clamps with the OR18 ones (check at Gander Mountain since they are cheaper than Cabelas and they have the %off going out of business). They do not like holding braid even with the OR18's unless you loop them though in waves.

Another way around the different clamps on the walleye church board with a braid packing is to use two rubber bands around the line and attach to the board clamps that way. The person who taught me how to salmon fish exclusively ran rubber bands on his boards and riggers and it works well just maintenance later on after a dozen fish with cleaning the bands off the line.

Church changed their pinch release to something braid friendly now. New ones work much better. you can also purchase the individual pinch release to change out your old ones if you desire.

Ok, so I got the Walleye Boards, excited to try them out.

Will they run fine with the TX44s and make a nice "V" behind the boat? Or does one go out way more than the other?
Any other mods you guys suggest? I got the metal pins.

The longer the line (heavier) the more you want to shift the adjustable weight forward on the walleye board. This will help it track better.
