Went offshore today to see what we could find..........and we didnt find much. worked 65-100 FOW. Saw alot of bait in 85-90 FOW toward bottom 20-30' thick. nabbed 2 nice lakers in 75-80 FOW. One on a 5 color Flounder pounder, and the other on the rigger 45' down, 20' back. Not the results I was looking for but I will take it - was a nice day out there.

Well you did better than us. We lost 2, landed and released a small king. It was really nice out there today.

We ended up keeping the lakers as my partner is going to smoke them. Each were packed with alewives. The smaller of the two had 17 in his belly (gorged) and the the big boy had 11 in him. The lakers were 12 and 18 lbs respectively.

We really don't catch many lakers, but I wonder why not takes pictures of the lakers full of alewive's and send them to the biologists. I wonder if they're interested in the info if self reported since they aren't really sampling them. I think they're being caught so high in the column with increasing frequency because they've figured out alewives are tasty and moving up the column for them.

Our fishing trip wasn't too bad. We managed to get 4 coho and a nice steelhead on Friday afternoon after the lake stilled. The fish were caught on red tiger thinfish, dodger and coho flies, and a s.s. mixed veggie spoon on a 5 color set up took the steelhead. The d/f were on my rigger set 25ft back and 10ft down. Our Saturday trip started poorly as we boated to about a half mile from Gary and started to set up the rods and noticed we did not bring the tackle tote I have. So back to the ramp we go start all over again. Yeah, I was pissed. Still the rest of the trip went alright and we took 6 more coho and my first brown trout. It was a great fish fight. It too fell to the s.s. spoon on 5 colors of lead. The coho were taken on the same 5 color rig and using my downrigger and a mag dipsy set on 2 and let out 30 to 35 feet dragging the red dodger and coho flies Split made up for me. The fish were near shore taken in 30 or so feet. I pulled red thinfish and other crankbaits on Saturday with 0 hits. We lost 4 other fish at the boat. Three were coho and the other was a nice steelhead. I think we were pressuring the fish too much and opened holes in their mouths. I'll not to be so anxious next trip. Hopefully that will stop some of the hook pulling.
I found some alewife in the cohos. Those bait fish are big. We marked bait all day along with fish. Maybe the bite was slow because the fish are getting plenty to eat now?
