Had a number of chores to work on yesterday morning, including getting the ProLine "drydocked" so I could do some work on the trailer. Needed more parts than I could find locally, so loaded up the Alumacraft and headed out for an afternoon run. Set lines outside of the Portage light and trolled towards the donut. Went 3/4 on Coho by the time I got to the Burns Harbor entrance so I turned back thinking I'd get my five by the time I got back. One more coho off the break wall and then the wind started to shift to the NW and the bite turned off cold.

Three Coho and a small Laker I released on a Hunter Boys custom J-9 in green/yellow tiger running flat and one Coho on red dodger with a green/blue/copper peanut behind a green tiger dipsey.

Due to waves and my little boat, it was hard to maintain an even speed, but 2.0 was the average. Faster didn't seem to help.

Nice report and I echo your response in regards to that wind shift, it shut them down in EC too. There was a period that it became a little snotty out there .

How far down do you fish dodgers and flies? Thanks

Where the fish are... ;)

This early, I'll run them between 10-20 feet using a downrigger, small dipsey, or lead core depending on the mood or water conditions.

I'm currently running my divers set on 3 only 20 to 30 feet of line, Downriggers with dodgers and flies only 6 or 8 feet deep. The cohos are still close to the surface and are always surface oriented. Even if they are swimming 10 or 15 feet deep they'll swim up to bite a lure. A fisherman fishing too shallow will still get some bites. A fisherman fishing too deep won't catch anything.
