Fished out of Michigan City Friday afternoon. The commandos were working the harbor mouth and breakwall pretty good. I idled thru the boats and setup in 60 ft just outside the pack and started west. Picked up a nice Coho pretty quick - 25 ft down on rigger - orange dodger with metallic blue fly. Boxed the fish and reset the line, only to have it release as soon as sat down. That fish escaped, but I thought this is going to be easy! Added another dodger/fly combo to my offerings.. Then it just died and the gnats showed up. Lost another coho on a free sliding spoon on a rigger down 45. Kept working west, and hit another nice coho on a spoon down 35ft. Finally a breeze came and cleared most of the bugs. Picked a small King @ 7lbs down 55 ft on a UV Moonshine spoon, and caught a couple lakes as well. Lost another King on the same spoon down 55 on rigger.
No Steelies for me, but I did end up with a decent cooler of 3 coho and a King. The lakers were small and were released boatside without netting .
