When times are right with temp and water clarity look for under water rocks/reefs. The portage reef is a good start on the port of indiana wall from the r4 to the mouth of port of indiana. The reef is north of that wall by about 40 feet. You will see the water go up to approx 18 feet deep and drop to 40 feet when you are of to the side of it. Michigan city is also a good spot just out side the pier heads. Look for other rock walls which might have large rocks under water with access to deeper water near by.

Does anyone have a favorite lake trout jigging spoon? I was out yesterday. Used 3/4 oz swim jig with 4" soft plastic bait that looked like smelt/alewife. They wouldn't hit that. Also tried a soft plastic grub in chartruese/flo red, similar to the spin and glows color. They wouldn't hit that either. Switched to a kastmaster spoon and landed two. Other boats doing well on what looked like small spoons. So, any suggestions with type, size and color?

Blade baits work good. Like the cicadas or the steel shads.

big dudes and ......chomper garlic soft platics have done good for me on a jig head. Jigged my first trout up with them when I was still more or less a bass fisherman, never stopped using them and they have performed well. Now that I dont have a trailer-able boat anymore I really dont do it anymore. I probably have a bunch of baits to give away to someone in need.
Boatless!
