1st:
Went out of the Ditch yesterday, started in 60' and went out to 90',speeds from 1.9-2.5 gps fished all day with every color spoon, plus body baits and SD and fly. My boat still wreaks of skunk. The good news is nothing broke and the Lake was beautiful.

2nd:
With all the debate over the alewife numbers being down and why. Has anyone else noticed the numbers of cormorants that have been on the lake? I don't think I have seen as many in years past as I have this year.
Any thoughts?
I know in MN they had a cormorant hunt to decrease their numbers on a lake up there. The carcasses were donated to a farmer for fertilizer.

I have noticed a ton of cormorants. About two weeks ago we passed a few hundred on our way offshore in about 60' of water. They were plucking alewives like it was going out of style.
Boatless!

To be a bit sarcastic, it's a part of the government conspiracy. Alewife numbers down. Feds hate invasive species (like salmon, browns and steelhead). Lake trout eating alewives won't reproduce. Get rid of the alewives, you'll get rid of the salmon, steel and browns. Make the state cut the salmon stocking to "protect" the alewives (salmon which die when they mature each year) then up the number of lake trout that don't die after spawning. Add cormorants (birds under federal control) to further reduce alewife numbers. Hmmmmmm!

If you think the corms are thick at Portage you ought to see them at East Chicago and even more in Calumet Park. Thousands and thousands of them.

Truthfully, I don't think there's a government conspiracy. Most of bureaucrats aren't smart enough to hold it together.
