Launched from Portage and headed back to Michigan waters off of MC. Started in 100' and worked out to 115' in several directions with a two-man spread. 50 degree water still about 50 - 55 feet down with pretty strong current running northeast which result in a few awesome tangles. A few boats went a bit farther out than me but several in the same area. A dismal 2 for 7 on the fish but killed it on fishhook fleas! Nice steelie ripped off the 250 copper, threw the orange Stinger Helmut back at us and then continued to jump behind the boat about 5 times- if it had a middle finger I am sure it would have flipped it at us. Fished in that area now 3 weeks in row and we figured we have gone a total of 20 for 43 so our ratio is way off compared to previous years. Our 250 copper has gone off 7 times and we are 0-7. Must have to make a better offering to the Fish Gods.....

Sometimes that happens. I don’t know if it works or not but I feel bumping the speed up helps the hook up rate. Thought is fish needs to commit and work to get the lure. Just my theory.

Completely agree, I generally run 2.6-2.9 as I think (theory) it also detracts the Lake Trout. Just one of those seasons I guess, been doing this for 25 years and yet to see a ratio that far off.
