The good:  Launched a little after 9 am out of Pastrick's with my brother and my pops. Set lines at the first light and headed towards the pack around the hole in the wall.  First pass went 2 for four , should have been 3 for four but we wanted pops to get the first fish but being 75 he didn't get from the front couch to the back for like 10 seconds  and fish came in buttoned, he did land the second one though.

The bad:    We only made the one pass ending just in front of the wall because i noticed when I turned to head  back south the Terrova seemed to have a hard time getting the nose around.  The reason- my batteries were already depleted!   This was my fault as i was trying to save a buck and installed used batteries into my rig.  It was one of those too good to be true deals  and it ended what looked to be a successful trip.
So brand new AGMs are already installed,  I should have known better.

All in all it was still fun getting the old man out and on my new rig.  I am enjoying the new boat more and more.  There were little whitecaps on the waves coming  in and the Angler Qwest just ate them up easily cruising 30mph right through them like a knife through hot butter.
We were starting to get dialed in too. Missed one on a J9 , the other 3 hits came on  Fire tiger thin fins, 70 back  2.4 to 2.7 trolling speed.
Even though it wasn't a long trip,  it was great to be back out there.  Looking forward to fun season on the big pond with Bertha ( officially named the new rig)

I see you have a Tohatsu kicker in your profile; curious why you were using the trolling motor and not the Kicker.

Ed, I'm glad you asked.I was wondering the same thing and thought I'm missing something. Even troll with the big motor if need be

I use both.  Kicker for propulsion providing 70 % of total thrust, locked straight.  The remaining 30% provided by he bow mount to steer boat. Using the bow mount gives me auto pilot so i can set a course and forget it, let's me concentrate on fishing not boat control. If i want to turn , it's at my fingertips.  I also have the kicker on a trollmaster throttle control so i can dial my desired speed in 1/10th of a mile increments.

This way of trolling is dynamite,  it's how all the walleye guys do it on Erie .

I understand the concept but wasn't sure why you cut your outing short with the other motors - was just curious.   My kicker is down so I just troll with the big motor; the trolling motor is ok for steering but unless I really need to get my speed down low, I use the kicker (or big motor now until I get the kicker back).

Valid question,  this was my first real outing with the toon and there was alot of boat traffic out there, the wind was picking up and I just wasn't comfortable with level of boat control i had without the bow mount in use.

If i absolutely had to I could have steered with the main but I guess I just want everything to be working 100% when I'm out there.
New AGMs now so I'll be ready next time!

It's alot easier steering the boat with trolling motor. There is no need to use linkeage. Or using steering wheel.
