TOPIC:

Was able to get out of work early and do the first shakedown trip of the year. Didn’t get out until 1230 pm and fished till almost 630 pm. Fished in 55 feet of water both East and West of the harbor. 

Overall, pretty good trip. Ended up 14-18 with 8 Lakers, 4 nice Cohos and 2 Kings. Largest King was a 19.8 lb beast!  Other King was around 8 lbs. Lakers were between 6 and 12 lbs. 

Fish hit on pretty much everything except my lead core. Colors of spoons were blue green, mixed veggies, orange crush  and a blue crush spoon. Largest King hit a small free slider spoon on my rigger that was set at 45 feet. 

Boat ran great. Only lesson learned on the day was I was a few hundred yards East of the port and there appears to be some 3-4 or so pipes/pipeline that stick up about 20 or so feet from the bottom in 50 feet of water or so...needless to say, I didn’t see it on my graph and ran over one of them which about snapped my only 1 of my downrigger line and cannon ball. Some how actual downrigger was ok.   Thankfully only one of my cannon balls broke off and the one with my fish hawk probe escaped. After zooming in my graph the chart had the markings....so all be careful out there. At first I thought it appeared to be a large bait school...nope!

anyway, still a great afternoon on the water.

Thanks for info. I am headed out around 3 any intel on hot spots for kings? I’m fairly new at game. How deep they usually are or targeted water temp? Thanks guys anything will help. Portage or MC is where I’m going depending time.

I just bought snubbers for my downriggers for this very reason. Something to give cushion and break if needed to save the downrigger.
