New member this year. My first post. Just started fishing Lake Michigan about three seasons ago. Been lot's of fun, learning quick.  Just wanted to say thanks to all members with "The South END". Your information, tips and knowledge is appreciated way beyond I can say Thank you.

I did venture out this morning with one of my sidekicks, AJJ. Even after reading many post saying nothing being caught unless 10 plus miles out in 100 FOW. Just wanted to get out. Haven't been last few weeks. Excuse - up north on vacation fishing. Did pretty good.

We launched EC hitting the water 630am. Lake was awesome. Went right to the "GONG". First time there ever. Heard in past could be good. Quickly started to mark fish. Trolled NW/SE and N/S hitting 42 - 55 FOW.  Lot's of balls of bait fish being chased. Trolled 5 rods. Using green dodger with green fly, lead core ran Brads and my two dipsy divers had spoons. Unfortunately no hits. About 9am the fish and bait pretty much disappeared.
Pulled lines and boated to Gary light. Scanned 35-55 FOW for perch, LOL. Nothing. Knew that but just checked.

Heard about two weeks Kings should start to run. Plan on a trip or two to the Kenosha WIS area soon. Anyone has intel up there. Never been. What launch, baits, area's?

Welcome to the site and thanks for the report. Right now fishing is well offshore. Best to look at the michigan city buoy and try to find where that cold water starts. Right now the bouy is warm all the way down. Salmon in general will start to run end of aug.

Good experience for you whether you caught any fish or not. Those first experiences you have going offshore are daunting. Feels like you are heading to the Flemish Cap, doesn't it?  The gong is six or seven miles out of Pastrick - though not so far to the end of the Inland Steel peninsula. Still having that big "bobber" out there gives a measure of security to you, at least it always did for me. It will seem far less intimidating with experience.

I'm sure there will be kings available at Kenosha - nice boat ramp down at their lakefront. However, I'm not sure if Wisconsin stocks any kings at Kenosha.  They do at Racine, a few miles farther north and Illinois stocks at Northpoint Marina just south of Kenosha - both have nice facilities, except Racine is $$$. Might want to consider these areas for a better chance of success.
