Thanks Mike for help in clearing this up for me and I'm sure others who may not have been aware. I had always assumed once a boat had limited it was done for the day. I knew you would be more in tune with how it all works when fishing across state lines.

New guy here, got out 6/4 for the first time for coho. We went 1 for 3 for the day. We were on at 8 of at 1 and it drizzled the whole time. Still learning the new boat and how to fish for salmon but at least we weren't skunked. Coho came on a yellow and blue flicker shad. Had a Dipsy down about 40' with a D/F go, grabbed the rod fought it for about a minute and my line broke. Lost everything. Great day to be out. Can't wait to get out again and learn more. Thank you all for the help and knowledge shared.

Welcome to the site and salmon fishing. Thank you for reporting. What depth of water where you fishing? What type of line were you using for your dipsey? Should use braid to the dipsey then a snubber off the back of the dipsey with floro to the lure. That helps minimize stretch on the main line to trip the dipsey and the snubber helps keep your fish on and line in tact.

We were trolling in 60 to 85 feet of water. I had 40lb braid and the whole snubber and flouro set up. It was new reel and line just spooled the night before. I can't explain why it broke but I hope it wasn't my knot.

Hey, it happens to all of us. I've been fishing for 60 years and I've had several knots let go over the years so dont feel bad, it happens but its possible that the fish got tangled in the line causing it to break. That's happened more times than a knot letting go.

I always use saliva on my line and knot before I start pulling it tight.
