Fished in the same general area that we have been fishing just set up shallower to start with. This one came on a Proking off a 225 copper. Not the biggest King but thought it was. He nearly spooled me, with 300 yards of backing cause he was foul hooked.

This time of the season a king like that  is almost a big deal. Probably most are in upper Michigan or Wisconsin by now. I say take them anyway you get them.
My Searunner 190, "Four "D's" and a "C". Retirement money well spent.

My son works at Marina Shores and talks to the charters, pretty good numbers of Kings (relatively speaking) being caught. Yesterday he saw coolers with 10, 18, 22lbs King with a report of bigger one breaking off.  I think they are still out there. Cold water and bait is a reason to delay the trip north!

Thanks for the report. Back in the late 70s and early 80s we caught kings out of City and New Buffalo all year long once they showed up. Cold water and bait is key. We caught most of the kings in 90 to 140 fow. We had good thermalclines and fished below and just above most of the kings we caught were in the last 1-½ to 2 hours of daylight. It was amazing! We'd go after work and fish till we could still see to get in. We'd fish from 4 pm eastern until 8:30 to 9 pm. We didn't make any but would catch a fish here and there but that last 1-½ you could watch the fish lift off the bottom and watch them come up and hit our lures. The bottom 20 Dow of water was covered with fish until we left. My dad loved it. We normally had our limit in those last 2 hours.

We'd turn and start trolling in at 7 or 7:30 pm so we'd be in 120fow by then and just trolled in until we pulled lines and ran in.

I haven't done that since my dad passed in 1993. Might do that this and for sure next.
