Fished NB last night. Ran out to 85 and  trolled west.  Ended up 4 for 7, 3 Kings and a 13lb steelhead.  Best king was 19 lb.
Moonshine red head and blue jeans were hot lures. I had all three rods go right after dark. The big king jumped several times fought like crazy. I managed to boat two but one  escaped after almost spooling my reel.
I added some lights to my rig for nite trips and they worked great. Best salmon fishing in years for me. Big king had nice big skeins of tight spawn too. Awesome night on the lake.

Nice going and I have a question.  I assume you put your red interior lights in to improve your night vision. How's that work? Have you every just had regular white lights?  Are the red lights better?  I'm just starting a feature article about night fishing and the red lights intrigue me.

Thanks Mike. I have tried white light but it ruins nite vision, and I didn't like blue light. The red indirect lights are a big improvement and a tidy floor is a must. I also use a UV flashlight to charge lures instead of a camera strobe. This also helps and really lights up the glow lures. A good LED clip on cap light helps with reading counters on my riggers . I sometimes use a green submersible light on a telescoping boat hook stuck in a rod holder for overhead light . Works good but I only use it offshore after discussing it's legality with the Coast Guard

For those using panoptix you can watch the ball drop on the screen to the desired location without having to read the downrigger counters

Yes indeed.  When you're a guest on someone's boat it is wise to pay attention. They know something you haven't thought of.

Mike,

I have red LED strips on my 14 foot Lund... they are great. Don't ruin your night vision, and maybe just as important , don't attract bugs like white lights do. Actually I have about 37 different colors available but I just set it to red and forget about it. Big fan of red lights... I don't buy headlights unless they have the red light. Use that walking into my deer stands in the dark as well. Doesn't spook critters near as much, and doesn't kill your night vision

I've ordered some red LED "flood lights" to light up my back deck and a head light to strap on as well. Hopefully it will be bright enough to be able to read my line counters on diver rods and 'riggers. Old dogs with new tricks -- go figure!  I have been using UV flashlights to charge my Glow lures for years. Better than cameral strobes.
