How do you set up your dipsy rod for spring coho? I have a wire dipsy setup with a mag size dipsy that I use in the summer for offshore kings, but I’ve never used a dipsy setup in close for spring coho or the random king.

Do you use a regular size dipsy or a mini dipsy? Should I stick with wire or do with mono or braid?

I’m planning on trolling the big lake on Sunday for the first time this year. Work has been getting in the way. I appreciate any suggestions or tips. I’ll post a report after my trip.

braid prefered on a mini dipsey on a 2 setting. Usually run dodger flies on them but you can use spoons as well or the mini spin dr and flies.

You can use a regular dipsey I just prefer the minis for coho and shallow waters.

I use the smaller size divers on braid on a 2.5 setting.  I typically run spinnies and coho flies on these rods.  You don't necessarily have to run them far back either.  10-12 feet is often plenty.

I use "regular" dipseys most of the time (#3)  - no ring for early cohos 15 to 25 feet of 30# mono between diver and rod tip. The mono acts as shock absorber, so no snubber between diver and lure. I only put 50 feet of 30# line on over 30# braid on the reel. When I start running 30 feet of line or more between rod and diver, I pull off the mono and tie to the braid. No stretch, so add a snubber.

I run an SWR Dispy with a size 88 {size 3) deeper diver. I run metered power pro depth hunter with a dropper knot on the braid, and 50 foot of mono leader from the braid. Diver is on setting 2
