Thumbs up for fishing in the ship canal. Nice mudline but it was a bit bumpy out there so I didn't spend much time on it. One pass and caught three fish. Plenty of fish in the channel and back in the turning basin. If you read my post yesterday that somehow went into the announcements forum you'll know what I was running. I did exactly as I said with a nine rod spread. Every rod caught three or four fish. Fish ranged from average to above average in size for early March. Ought to be some mega--hos being pulled by the end of May.

Saw several boats trolling the Inland Wall. Water temp was 41 there, plenty warm for cohos to bite. Any reports from that area? Water is plenty clean for fishing thinfins, wiggle warts, J-9s and Mepps Spinners.

When do you start pulling your dodger/fly combos BN? Is it a water clarity issue that determines their use or is more water temp related? I have not fished up there in March. It is usually mid April when I first come up and the d/f combos are working for me and most others along with the Thinfish/Fins.

Hey Ed. Did you get a chance to wet your boat down yet? What is your starting line up this time of spring for the coho if you only had to put 6 rods in the fight?

HBO J-9's in Tequila Sunrise, HBO Flatwarts red/black squiggles, HBO thinfins red/black squiggles Tequila Sunrise, Red/black squiggle Deep Junior Thunderstick.

Got out the other day for a shake down. Watched Bob and Steve catch fish for awhile and then I finally got a few. first 3 came at one time. Was out by myself. Lots of fun. Might get out later in the day Saturday.

Dan:
Some guys start out with D/F and do all right with them as soon as they get their boat wet. I do better when the open lake water (nearshore) get in the upper 40s. I usually gradually intro them into the line-up. Maybe one on a dipsey, another one a shallow downrigger. If they start going, I add more. In the murky water, use dark flies.
